Changing of the Guards

It was a very cold and very wet day when we foolishly stood in the rain for about two hours to see the "Changing of the Guards". To be fair, we didn't think we would be there for so long. We never realised how many different things happened and how slow it all was! We couldn't even move around much because we had a front row view and didn't want to come back and find that we couldn't see anything.

The monument outside Buckingham Palace

The impressive entrance gates - the crowd had started to gather.

Buckingham Palace from a less well known angle

......and with the monument in the foreground.

The new guards arriving

This policewoman was definitely feeling the cold!

This police horse decided to do a little dance for us.

The new guard arriving from the barracks.

I am not sure what the Horse Guards were doing. They just rode up and around and then went back to the Horse Guard Barracks at the end of the Mall.

The "change over"

..and the Horse Guards just giving us a bit of entertainment while we waited.

The old guard exiting.

The police had a bit of trouble keeping everyone "behind the lines".

Horse Guards arriving

Horse Guard back at the barracks and on duty.
